It is located in the Central Black Sea region. It is one of the oldest residential areas of Anatolia. It has been the center of various civilizations, starting with the Hittites. The oldest known name of the city is Amasya, which, as it is said, has come to the present day without any changes.
Strabon known as the inventor of the science of Geography was born here, and he mentioned Amasya as Amasseia in his famous geography book he wrote. Although the exact date of the founding of the city of Amasya is not known, it is estimated that the settlement dates back to the Hittite period.

During the Ottoman Empire, many sultans were born in Amasya and became princes. For this reason, it is also of great importance from the point of view of the Ottoman history of Amasya.
