The fishing ban that began on April 15 has come to an end, and fishermen heading out to sea on the first day of the new season found their nets filled mostly with anchovies.
Fishermen Say Vira Bismillah
After almost five months of restrictions, fishermen took to the sea saying Vira Bismillah, the traditional phrase used when setting out on a new fishing season.
They have now completed their first day of fishing, with anchovies making up the largest share of their catch.
Anchovies Dominate the First Catch
Fishermen in the Aegean region caught mainly anchovies during their first night at sea.
After fishing throughout the night, the fishermen began returning to the fishing shelters to unload and sell their catch.
The fish caught in the Aegean Sea will be sent to many cities across Turkey.
