Muğla Battles Intense Forest Fires
Forest fires continue to rage in Muğla’s Köyceğiz and Milas districts, forcing the evacuation of 218 homes and the relocation of 582 residents to safe areas. Firefighters, supported by aerial and ground teams, are struggling to contain the flames that have spread rapidly due to strong winds. While six of the eight fires that broke out recently in Muğla were brought under control, two areas remain critical.
In Akköprü’s Bozburun region, the fire that started yesterday has continued to expand with the wind. Throughout the night, ground crews fought the flames, while at sunrise planes and helicopters joined the operation. Currently, 143 fire trucks, 122 vehicles, 20 heavy machines, and nearly 939 personnel are battling the fire on land, alongside 10 planes and 14 helicopters from the air.
Evacuations and Damage in Villages
As flames approached Akköprü, Sazak, and Pınar, precautionary evacuations took place, with 218 homes cleared and 582 villagers moved to safety. Additionally, 997 small livestock and 496 cattle were relocated. Initial reports confirm damage to two warehouses and two barns, while ten animals perished in the fire. Teams are still working tirelessly to prevent further spread.
Alanya Faces Fire Emergency
In Antalya’s Alanya district, a wildfire of unknown origin broke out in Yaylakonak and spread swiftly toward Şıhlar due to strong winds. The situation forced the evacuation of homes in Şıhlar, with seven residents removed by firefighters. Emergency units including forestry teams, firefighters, paramedics, gendarmerie, AFAD, and IHH personnel were dispatched to the scene.
Local Authorities Sound Alarm
Alanya Deputy Mayor Murat Levent Koçak reported that flames intensified under the influence of the wind, threatening nearby neighborhoods. One resident affected by smoke inhalation was hospitalized. Meanwhile, Ramazan Başkan, head of IHH Alanya Search and Rescue, confirmed the full evacuation of Şıhlar and emphasized that no homes have been destroyed so far, though many gardens and fields have been damaged.
