Antalya has secured a place among the world’s top five tourism destinations, according to a new global study by Euromonitor, one of the world’s leading independent research organizations. The city surpassed major global hubs such as Los Angeles and Dubai, ranking fifth overall and becoming the first and only city from Turkey to enter this prestigious list.

A Quality-Focused Global Ranking by Euromonitor

London-based Euromonitor released its 2025 research after previously publishing its “Most Visited Cities in the World” ranking. Unlike visitor-based lists, this second study evaluates destinations based on their long-term tourism performance. The research emphasizes quality, sustainability, and effective destination management rather than sheer tourist numbers.

Within this framework, Antalya stood out for its balanced and future-oriented tourism model, earning fifth place among the world’s leading destinations.

Measured Across More Than 50 Indicators

The study assessed over 100 tourism and holiday destinations worldwide using more than 50 indicators. These included tourism infrastructure, economic and commercial efficiency, employment capacity, consistency of tourism policies, health and safety standards, and environmental and social sustainability.

The core aim of the research was to determine not only how many tourists a destination attracts, but also how well tourism is managed in a healthy, balanced, and sustainable way over time.

Antalya Stands Out with Its Resort Identity

While most destinations in the top ten are known primarily for city tourism, Antalya stands apart as the only resort-focused destination on the list. This distinction highlights the city’s unique position in global tourism, combining large-scale resort facilities with strong destination governance and sustainability principles.

A Shift in Global Tourism Trends

Experts note that the ranking reflects a broader shift in global tourism. As uncontrolled growth places increasing pressure on infrastructure, the environment, and local communities, destinations that prioritize balance and sustainability are gaining prominence.

This evolving approach focuses on attracting more conscious travelers, encouraging longer stays, protecting natural and social assets, and supporting the quality of life for local residents.

High Visitor Satisfaction Drives Antalya’s Success

Antalya’s rise into the top five was driven by several key strengths, including its robust accommodation infrastructure, diverse tourism offerings, modern airport, advanced transportation network, family-friendly services, nature-conscious holiday concepts, and openness to technological innovation. Visitor experience and satisfaction-based feedback played a decisive role in the evaluation.

From Quantity to Quality in Turkey’s Tourism Vision

Antalya’s inclusion in the top five is widely seen as a concrete indicator of Turkey’s shift from quantity-driven tourism to a quality-focused model. In the coming years, sustainability, destination management, and service quality are expected to play an even more decisive role in similar global indices.
