Authority raises speed limit on motorways

According to the new application speed limit will be 130 km/h on motorway from Edirne to Urfa (except for between Ankara-Niğde) and 140 km/h on Marmara, Istanbul-Izmir-Ankara-Niğde motorway. The new application will be valid from July 1.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs sent related writing to 81 provincial governorates.

In current practice based on article number 50 of the Road Traffic Code entitled “Speed Limits”, The maximum and minimum speed limits at which motor vehicles can be driven according to the type and purpose of use are determined in the regulation not to exceed 90 kilometers / hour on intercity two-way highways, 110 kilometers /hour on divided roads, 120 kilometers/hour on highways.”

In this direction, from July 1, the implementation of a new speed limit on motorways for cars will begin.After this date, speed limits will be as follows:

– Edirne-Istanbul-Ankara, Turkey, Niğde-Mersin-Tarsus Sanliurfa-Sanliurfa, Cesme-Izmir-Aydın highway: 130 km/h
– North Marmara motorway Sakarya-Kurtköy-Odayeri-Henna, Malkara-Çanakkale Gebze-Izmir-menemen-Çandarlı Ankara-Niğde Highway: 140 km/h

In addition, the speed limit on highways that are under construction or will be newly projected will be 140 kilometers /hour. As part of the new application, work is underway to mark traffic on highways.
