Important data regarding daily and short-term rentals emerged from the impact analysis of the draft law on the Rental of Residential Properties for Tourism Purposes.

THEY DID NOT PAY TAXES

As of September 2023, approximately 80,000 homes were rented out to 425,902 domestic and foreign tourists for daily or short periods across the country without proper registration. Homeowners made 51.6 billion 638 million Turkish lira from these rentals and did not pay taxes.

TAXES WILL BE COLLECTED FROM INCOME

With the draft law submitted by AKP Member of Parliament Oğuzhan Kaya and his colleagues, these properties will be registered, and taxes will be collected from the income. The proposal has started to be discussed in the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s Planning and Budget Committee.

AKP member Kaya reported that there were 30,908 properties registered with the police and gendarmerie, and that 425,902 people had stayed in these properties as of September 2023. As a result of cross-checks and inspections, the number of properties used for short-term tourism accommodation, including unregistered ones, has reached 80,000.
