As Bodrum’s popular summer season begins, the town’s Mayor Tamer Mandalinci has assured residents and tourists that the region has sufficient water to support up to 900,000 people through the end of summer—barring any major malfunctions or losses.

Speaking about the current water levels, Mandalinci noted that the Mumcular Dam had reached 27% capacity, a significant improvement from last year’s 10%, though still considered a “dead level” since its islands remain visible. The Geyik Dam, which supplies most of the region’s water, is in better condition at around 75% capacity. He credited this to both increased rainfall and the eight new wells drilled last year to support the supply.

Mandalinci: “We have enough water to meet the needs of 450,000 people in winter and up to 900,000 in summer.”

To prepare for potential disruptions, the municipality plans to offer tanker water deliveries, hydrofor (booster pumps), and water tanks free of charge to those in need. He also emphasized ongoing investments to improve infrastructure. A ₺1 billion fund has been allocated by Muğla Metropolitan Municipality to replace aging pipes and reduce water loss, aiming to cut leakage rates to 15% by next summer.

“With the infrastructure upgrades and proactive measures, we aim to eliminate Bodrum’s water troubles in the near future,” Mandalinci concluded.
