Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the army to carry out immediate and strong strikes against Gaza. The move comes after Israel accused Hamas of breaching the ceasefire agreement.
According to government sources, the order was given following the return of a body that Israel claims belongs to Ofir Tzarfati, one of the captives believed to have been killed during the Gaza conflict. Israeli officials argue that Hamas’s actions represent a clear violation of the truce.
Ceasefire and Prisoner Exchange Developments
The ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal between Israel and Hamas took effect on October 10. Under the agreement, Israeli forces were to withdraw to what is known as the “yellow line,” allowing the ceasefire to begin at noon on the same day.
However, despite the truce, the Israeli army has continued occasional strikes in Gaza, citing various security justifications.
After the exchange of surviving Israeli captives, 28 bodies of Israeli prisoners were reported to remain in Gaza. Earlier, Hamas had handed over 17 bodies to Israel, but tests later showed that one of them did not belong to any known Israeli captive, and another contained remains of a previously identified hostage.
Reports indicate that 13 bodies of Israeli captives have been found within Gaza so far.
Controversy Over Returned Bodies
Israel has also returned 195 Palestinian bodies to Gaza through the Red Cross, though without providing identity details. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, only 72 of those individuals have been identified.
Ismail al-Sewabite, head of Gaza’s Government Media Office, stated that evidence of torture and close-range gunfire was found on several of the returned bodies. He claimed this proves Israel has carried out “field executions” against Palestinian detainees.
