An announcement has come from Qandil that the PKK has convened its congress. It was stated that the congress, expected to outline a roadmap for the group’s possible dissolution, had been held between May 5–7 and decisions were taken.
The PKK 12th Congress Committee stated the following:
“The 12th PKK Congress was successfully held between May 5–7 in the Media Defense Areas. The congress was conducted in two parallel locations with delegates representing all areas of activity.
The 12th Congress convened in response to the call of Leader Abdullah Öcalan. It began by greeting Leader Apo with longing and respect, and it read and evaluated the perspectives and proposals submitted by Abdullah Öcalan to the congress. A brief report from the PKK Central Committee was also read and discussed.
Within this framework, the 12th PKK Congress made historically significant decisions regarding PKK activities, based on Leader Apo’s call.
Taking place in May, which is known as the Month of Martyrs, the 12th PKK Congress commemorated with respect, love, and gratitude all heroic martyrs of the 52-year-long struggle. It called on our patriotic people and all democratic socialist forces to fully embrace, live by, and keep alive all national and democratic values produced by this 52-year struggle, especially the legacy of the martyrs.
The congress also paid tribute with respect and gratitude to the late Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who was one of the main contributors to its preparation. It called on everyone to collectively strive to fulfill his goals of peace and a democratic society, as he had been a comrade to Leader Apo for 12 years.
Detailed information and documents regarding the outcomes and decisions of the 12th PKK Congress will be shared with the public very soon, after results from both locations are consolidated.
On this basis, we once again remember our first great martyr, comrade Haki Karer, and all heroic martyrs with respect and gratitude. We call on our patriotic people and democratic friends to honor our martyrs in all areas and to intensify the struggle for the physical freedom of Leader Apo.”
