A wildfire that started in a field near Çeşme’s Ildır neighborhood has turned into a full-blown environmental disaster. What began as a local blaze quickly escalated into a fierce forest fire, fueled by strong winds and scorching summer heat. By morning, the true scale of the destruction became heartbreakingly clear.
The Fire Takes Hold
The fire broke out around 1:30 PM yesterday, initially reported in a stretch of agricultural land. But it didn’t take long for the flames to leap into nearby forests, spreading rapidly toward Urla. Residents in the area could do little but watch as the fire tore through the dry landscape with alarming speed.
An Aggressive Response from the Air and Ground
As the situation escalated, the İzmir Regional Directorate of Forestry launched a major firefighting operation. The response included 4 airplanes, 5 helicopters, 22 fire trucks, 7 water tankers, and 3 bulldozers. Crews battled the fire from both the sky and the ground, working relentlessly through the night.
Evacuations in Ildır, Germiyan, and Nohutalan
With flames advancing toward residential areas, precautionary evacuations were ordered. Parts of Ildır were cleared out, along with Germiyan and Nohutalan neighborhoods. These rural communities, surrounded by olive groves and forests, were directly in the fire’s path.
