As tensions escalated rapidly with Russia launching a military operation in Ukraine, a statement came from China, a close ally of Russia. China has stated that Russia’s military operation in Ukraine “does not mean an invasion”.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying, at a daily press conference, was harsh on journalists who used the phrase “Russian invasion”. ”You are using the Western media’s method of using the phrase occupation,“ the Chinese official said. “We are closely monitoring the latest situation. We call on all parties to use common sense to prevent the situation from getting out of hand.”
Noting that China has not provided weapons to pro-Russian forces in Ukraine, Hua also called on Chinese citizens in Ukraine not to leave their homes and not to carry symbols belonging to the country, such as the Chinese flag.
Earlier, the Chinese Foreign Ministry blamed the United States for the crisis, saying that ”the United States is constantly raising tensions by selling weapons to Ukraine and making war cries.”
