Çukurova International Airport, the gateway to the world for the Çukurova region, which includes Adana, Mersin, Osmaniye, and Hatay, welcomed its first passengers yesterday. The airport was inaugurated in a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The first plane landed at Çukurova International Airport at 12:00 PM, arriving from Istanbul. The TK2462 flight of Turkish Airlines took off from Istanbul at 10:15 AM and touched down at the new airport at noon. The second plane, flight PC3011 from İzmir, landed shortly after. Pegasus Airlines made this historic flight using a special plane with Atatürk’s silhouette, marking the 100th anniversary.
The first departure from Çukurova International Airport was also to Istanbul. The TK2463 Turkish Airlines flight took off at 12:45 PM, and passengers were given chocolates and special commemorative boarding passes to mark the occasion.
On its first day, Çukurova International Airport had a busy schedule, with a total of 52 flights, 34 domestic and 18 international.
Passengers who used Çukurova International Airport for the first time were very impressed, stating that the region was in great need of such a modern airport.
One Week of Free Parking
To celebrate its opening, Çukurova International Airport is offering free parking for passengers from August 11-18.
Turkey’s Gateway to the Middle East
Located in Tarsus, Mersin, the Çukurova International Airport is built on an 8 million square meter area, including a 110,000 square meter terminal. The airport, constructed using the latest technology by KZV Airports under the “Build-Operate-Transfer” model, is expected to provide direct and indirect employment for 3,000 people and significantly contribute to the economic, tourism, and commercial development of the Çukurova region.
The airport features a main runway of 3,500 meters and an auxiliary runway, allowing even the largest passenger planes to land and take off. The airport’s Apron 1 can accommodate 48 aircraft, while the 120-meter-long Apron 2 can hold 21 planes.
9 Million Passenger Capacity
With a total capacity of 9 million passengers, Çukurova International Airport will serve over 5 million citizens in Mersin, Adana, Osmaniye, and Niğde, becoming one of Turkey’s most important gateways to Middle Eastern countries.
