The US dollar has once again climbed above the 41 TL mark, testing this critical level for the first time since March 19. As of this morning, the dollar appears to be holding above this threshold, with markets closely watching whether it can maintain momentum.

What Triggered the Move?

This latest upward movement comes nearly five months after the dollar last reached similar levels. On March 19, the exchange rate had spiked to 41.6416 TL, following political turbulence stemming from the detention of Ekrem İmamoğlu, which caused a wave of foreign capital outflows and heightened market uncertainty.

Now, as of 09:37 AM, the dollar is trading at 41.0134 TL on international markets, marking a 0.19% daily increase. Earlier in the day, it touched an intraday high of 41.01 TL.

Domestic Market Snapshot

In the interbank market, the dollar is being traded in the range of 40.857 – 40.922 TL, slightly below international levels, but still reflecting an upward trend.

Year-to-Date Performance

The greenback has gained approximately 0.9% since the beginning of August, and a substantial 16% year-to-date against the Turkish lira. This performance reflects both global dollar strength and ongoing pressure on the lira, driven by macroeconomic and political developments.

In Summary

The dollar’s return above 41 TL signals growing investor caution and renewed currency volatility in Turkey. With political factors still influencing sentiment and foreign investors closely watching domestic developments, the lira could remain under pressure in the near term. Whether the central bank steps in or market forces take over will determine the next move for USD/TRY.
