Previously originating from Africa and Arabia, desert dust is now coming from Greece. Meteorologist Güven Özdemir stated that the desert dust would be impactful for a week. He explained that desert dust could quickly travel to different locations through upward movements in the atmosphere.
He mentioned that this year, desert dust had observed in Turkey multiple times at short intervals, causing the air to change color in many areas.
Özdemir noted that desert dust used to be more intense in the southern parts of Central Anatolia, the Eastern Mediterranean, and Southeastern Anatolia. However, it is now moving further north.
He emphasized that a new wave of desert dust from North Africa had reached northern Italy due to low pressure and entered Turkey from its western coast via Greece today. This desert dust will be effective in Turkey for a week and is expected to dissipate starting next Saturday.
