Economy in Turkey: 2024 Inflation Announced by TUIK

In December, inflation increased by 1.03%, and the annual inflation rate was calculated at 44.38%. The Domestic Producer Price Index (Yİ-ÜFE) rose by 28.52% annually, while it increased by 0.40% month-to-month.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced the inflation data for December 2024. According to this, the Consumer Price Index (TÜFE) increased by 1.03% in December, and the annual inflation was calculated to be 44.38%. Market expectations were for a 1.61% increase in TÜFE in December, and an annual inflation rate of 45.21%.

According to TÜİK’s statement, the change in TÜFE (2003=100) for December 2024 was 1.03% compared to the previous month, 44.38% compared to the same month of the previous year, and 58.51% for the 12-month average.

The group with the smallest increase compared to the same month of the previous year was transportation, with an increase of 25.88%. On the other hand, the group with the highest increase was education, with a rise of 91.64%.

Regarding major expenditure groups, the biggest decrease compared to the previous month in December 2024 was in clothing and footwear, with a -0.67% decrease. The group with the highest increase compared to the previous month was furniture, with a 2.78% rise.

Among the 143 main categories in the index (Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose – COICOP 5-level), 19 categories saw a decrease, 12 showed no change, and 112 categories had an increase.

Special Excluding Food, Energy, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Gold: The annual change in the special CPI excluding unprocessed food, energy, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and gold was 43.94%. For December 2024, this change was 1.17% compared to the previous month, and 43.94% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Producer Price Index (ÜFE) Annual Change: The Domestic Producer Price Index (Yİ-ÜFE) for December 2024 showed a 0.40% increase compared to the previous month, a 28.52% increase compared to the same month of the previous year, and a 41.10% increase for the 12-month average.
