According to inflation-adjusted data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), bullion provided the highest real return on a monthly basis, and it also stood out on a quarterly and annual basis. On a monthly basis, the Borsa Istanbul BIST 100 index could not keep up with inflation.
TÜİK has released the “Real Return Rates of Financial Investment Instruments” data for September 2024. According to the statement, the highest monthly real return was recorded in bullion, with a 4.67% increase when adjusted by the domestic producer price index (D-PPI), and 3.04% when adjusted by the consumer price index (CPI).
When adjusted by D-PPI, deposit interest (gross) provided a real return of 1.90%, the Euro 0.63%, and Government Domestic Debt Securities (GDDS) 0.50%. The US dollar lost 0.25% and the BIST 100 index lost 2.79% for investors.
When adjusted by CPI, deposit interest (gross) provided a real return of 0.32%, while the Euro lost 0.93%, GDDS lost 1.06%, the US dollar lost 1.80%, and the BIST 100 index lost 4.30% for investors.
