Economy in Turkey: first inflation data of 2025 announced by TUIK

Inflation in January rose by 5.03%, and the annual inflation rate was calculated at 42.12%. Economists had expected the Consumer Price Index (CPI) to increase by 4.33% in January, with the annual rate decreasing to 41.16%. The Producer Price Index (PPI) for domestic production rose by 27.20% annually and 3.06% monthly.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) released the first inflation figures for the year. According to the data, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 5.03% in January, and annual inflation fell to 42.12%. Economists had expected a 4.33% increase in January, with the annual inflation rate dropping to 41.16%.

In December, inflation had increased by 1.03%, and the 2024 inflation rate was calculated at 44.38%. It is expected that the CPI will reach 28% by the end of 2025, and the CPI for the end of 2026 is projected to increase by 19.28%.

According to the data released by TÜİK, the change in the CPI (base year 2003=100) for January 2025 compared to the previous month was 5.03%, compared to the same month of the previous year it was 42.12%, and the 12-month average was 56.35%.

The category with the least increase compared to the same month last year was transportation, with a 23.14% increase. In contrast, the category with the highest increase was education, which saw a rise of 99.93%.
