Productive Gaza Summit at the United Nations
At the United Nations building, a high-level summit on Gaza brought together world leaders. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan sat side by side with US President Donald Trump. Following the closed-door meeting, Erdoğan told reporters, “It was a very productive meeting, I am satisfied with the outcome.”
The summit hosted leaders from Turkey, the United States, Indonesia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Pakistan, and Egypt.
Trump: This Could End the War in Gaza
At the beginning of the meeting, President Donald Trump called the gathering “a very important meeting” with major Middle Eastern leaders. He underlined that the aim was to end the war in Gaza and possibly achieve progress immediately. Trump stressed that peace in the Middle East would make life much better and emphasized that the discussions would focus on the release of hostages and ending the conflict.
He also highlighted that he would meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other regional figures afterward, stressing, “This has gone on too long, and we want it to end. We also want to bring the hostages back.”
Qatar’s Emir Highlights Gaza Situation
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani thanked the participating leaders for their commitment and efforts. He drew attention to the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, emphasizing the importance of exploring collective steps for peace. He also expressed gratitude to Trump for hosting the Gaza-focused summit.
Erdoğan: A Meeting That Brings Hope
After the summit, President Erdoğan spoke to journalists outside the Turkish House in New York. When asked about possible concrete steps for peace and the protection of civilians, Erdoğan responded, “The final declaration will likely be announced shortly. With the statements from President Trump and Emir Tamim, the outcome of this meeting will be clear. We concluded a very productive and meaningful summit.”
When pressed on whether he was personally satisfied, Erdoğan added: “I am satisfied. May the outcome bring goodness.”
Trump: Very Successful Talks on Gaza
As he left the UN building, Trump also described the discussions as highly successful, noting, “We had a very good meeting about Gaza. It was very successful with the major players in the region, except Israel, but I will meet them as well. We will work on certain issues regarding Gaza.”
