A Positive Outcome from Washington
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan described his summit with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House as a historic and highly constructive meeting. Speaking to journalists on his way back, Erdoğan said, “It was such a beautiful visit that it cannot be tarnished by mudslinging. We are leaving Washington with satisfaction.”
He underlined that the dialogue with Trump was sincere, constructive, and productive, and stressed that this positive spirit would reflect on Turkish-American relations. Both leaders discussed trade goals, regional conflicts, and humanitarian crises, with Erdoğan highlighting their shared vision for peace.
Gaza and Humanitarian Concerns
Erdoğan emphasized that one of the main topics was the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. He said that both sides reached an understanding on the need to end the bloodshed: “President Trump also expressed the necessity of ending the clashes in Gaza and achieving lasting peace. We underlined that the only path forward is first a ceasefire and then a permanent solution based on a two-state framework.”
Erdoğan added that Turkey will continue to keep Gaza on the global agenda until a just and lasting peace is achieved.
Israel’s Growing Isolation
Commenting on Israel’s international stance, Erdoğan noted that Israel is becoming increasingly isolated because of its actions: “Other than a handful of countries, who is still standing with Israel? The truth is now clear to the world.” He described the images of starving children and families struggling under the ruins as a reminder of the urgent need for justice and humanity.
Global Recognition of Palestine
On the recent recognition of Palestine by countries such as the UK and France, Erdoğan said: “This recognition carries meaning. Neutrality in the face of oppression only emboldens the oppressor. International pressure must increase to push Israel towards a two-state solution.” He stressed that the collective will of nations, civil society, and global leaders will help end the suffering.
Turkey’s Peace-Oriented Diplomacy
Erdoğan reaffirmed that Turkey’s foreign policy is fundamentally based on peace: “We are building roadmaps centered on peace. Our initiatives, such as the Black Sea Grain Corridor and prisoner exchanges, show that our efforts are not in vain. Until the bloodshed stops, Turkey will continue to fight for peace.”
Türkevi as a Diplomacy Hub
Highlighting the importance of the Turkish House (Türkevi) in New York, Erdoğan said it has become a center of diplomacy, hosting global leaders and discussions: “It strengthens Turkey’s role as a mediator and shows the growing influence of our diplomacy.”
Regional Issues and Suriye Relations
Addressing regional conflicts, Erdoğan stressed the importance of Syria’s international legitimacy and reconstruction. He reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to Syria’s territorial integrity and the rejection of terrorist groups in shaping its future.
Strengthened Ties with Egypt and Libya
Erdoğan also pointed to deepening relations with Egypt and cooperation in the Mediterranean, including joint naval drills. He emphasized Turkey’s determination to protect its rights while also advocating for win-win cooperation.
Cyprus and the Two-State Solution
On Cyprus, Erdoğan was clear: “The federation formula is closed for us. The only realistic solution is the acceptance of two separate states on the island.” He reiterated Turkey’s full support for Turkish Cypriots.
Strong Internal Unity
Erdoğan ended by underlining the importance of internal unity and resilience: “If our internal front is strong, no one can impose anything on us. Our vision is a fully independent and prosperous Turkey for future generations.”
