As the Covid-19 outbreak continues its impact, filiation work has almost come to a standstill. According to experts, the epidemic cannot be controlled until 85 percent of the community has completed vaccination, so that the chain of transmission can be broken.
The corona virus epidemic in Turkey continues to increase in the number of cases and deaths. According to the data of the Ministry of Health, the total number of cases between July 26 – August 26 was 691 thousand 689, while the average daily case was recorded over 21 thousand. According to the Ministry’s data, a total of 4,535 people died due to the corona virus between the same dates.
According to experts, as corona cases and deaths continue, filiation work, the most effective method of breaking the chain of transmission, has almost come to a standstill. Experts comment that the Ministry of Health does not act in accordance with scientific data, contact monitoring is not practiced and a new peak would occur in the fall if double-dose vaccination is not reached.
THERE ARE TWO REASONS WHY FILIATION DOESN’T WORK
According to experts who state that the impact of the covid-19 epidemic continues to increase, 88 percent of people hospitalized in hospitals due to the corona virus in Turkey are those who have not had corona virus vaccine.
As this picture continues, there are two reasons why filiation work has been weakening as noted by experts that deal with those under quarantine and conduct contact tracking.
“The first reason for the weakening of filiation is that public officials involved in filiation are not health workers who have returned to their original duties. The authority ahd employed mostly non-health workers in the filiation, but they returned to their jobs. The second reason is tourism zones. Especially in seaside resorts, the population increases tenfold in summer, but the number of filiation teams does not increase tenfold. And these are the riskiest areas because people go on vacation and then go back to their hometown. Variants from coastal areas spread to other parts of Turkey.”
ALMOST NO CONTACT TRACKING
Experts also not following: “Filiation work has been completely abandoned. Almost no contact tracking is practiced any more. In a private organization, when a person diagnosed with Covid-19 is detected in a private production area, there is no screening for other citizens working in the same area. Friends in that unit are not quarantined. Our patients say that one-on-one. Patients come to the hospital themselves, but unfortunately they are not quarantined.”
CASE NUMBERS ARE VERY LIKELY TO EXPLODE AGAIN IN AUTUMN
During this period, the government did not employ enough health workers. Also there were not enough filiation staff throughout the pandemic. More than 100 thousand health vocational high school graduates or health vocational high school graduates are waiting for a job, these people should be employed and assigned to filiation with 15-day training.
“The health minister has said “we’re doing 99.9 per cent filiation.” That was not an accurate figure. If it were, Turkey would not see the number of cases of 50 thousand, 60 thousand. The filiation was weak, very weak. This problem cannot be overcome without succeeding in filiation and effective vaccination. Case numbers will explode again in the fall. If we don’t get Corona vaccinations to 85 percent by the end of September, we’ll go into winter with a major crisis. So by the end of September, two doses of Biontech or two doses of Sinovac plus one dose of Biontech vaccination should be 85 percent in the community. If this is not accomplished, daily numbers willexceed 30 thousand by the end of September and we will enter January with figures such as 50-60 thousand.
