According to the calculation of analysts, bank shares which experienced a net foreign exchange increase of 145 million dollars in the week of December 12-16, also became the locomotive of Borsa Istanbul today.

While the risk appetite seems weak in global markets, Borsa Istanbul continues its enthusiasm to rise. While the banking index has been prominent in the stock market since last week, it has also contributed the most to the BIST100 index with its increase exceeding 7 percent today.

Borsa Istanbul BIST100 index started the new week with a premium of more than 1 percent and some bank shares traded at the ceiling price.

Analysts said that there was unease in the market about the securities obligation that came with the Central Bank’s macro-prudential measures, but this uneasiness also decreased because the statements from banks, except for some banks, were in the opposite direction.

Analysts who emphasized that Akbank, Işbank, Yapı Kredi, Garanti Bbva, Vakıfbank and Halkbank had a net foreign purchase of 145 million dollars last week stated that the same story continued today.

RETURN ON BANKING INDEX APPROACHES 20.5 PERCENT

In the 2.5 increase in Borsa Istanbul BIST100 index, Akbank’s contribution is close to 15 points, and Isbank’s contribution is 11.34 points while Yapı Kredi Bank’s contribution is 5.95 points and Garanti Bbva’s 4.68 points. Since December 9, the return on the banking index has also approached 20.5 percent.
