Forest fire in Çanakkale spreads to “Ancient City”

A forest fire that broke out in the shrublands of Çanakkale’s Ayvacık district has spread to the ancient city of Assos. Efforts to control the fire from both the air and the ground are ongoing, as teams work to bring the blaze under control. Teams from the Provincial Gendarmerie Command are also conducting investigations at the site where the fire first started.

Flames began to rise in the shrublands near Behramkale village in Çanakkale’s Ayvacık district. The fire, exacerbated by strong winds, spread to the nearby Assos Ancient City. In response, helicopters and planes from the Çanakkale Regional Directorate of Forestry were dispatched to the area, along with numerous fire trucks and forest personnel on the ground.

Efforts to extinguish the fire continue from both the air and the ground, with teams striving to bring the situation under control. Additionally, teams from the Provincial Gendarmerie Command are examining the initial outbreak site of the fire.
