Government Statement on Instagram ban: They say ‘We’ll do as we wish, publish what we want, and not what we don’t want”

"Share this post on social media, spread the news"

Two days after Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun criticized Instagram for blocking condolence messages regarding the death of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh, the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) imposed an access ban on the social media platform.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Ömer Fatih Sayan commented on BTK’s decision to block Instagram, citing “catalog crimes” and stating, “They say, ‘We’ll do as we wish, publish what we want, and not publish what we don’t want.’ We did not accept this and will not accept it.

We will do whatever is necessary to establish a more respectful, clean, and safe social media environment that respects our values and is free of disinformation.”
