Heavy Rain Across Turkey: Storms and Winds on the Way — What to Expect on July 16, 2025

Widespread Showers Take Over the Country: According to the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM), much of the country is under a thick cloud cover today, with widespread showers and thunderstorms expected. The unsettled weather is affecting regions from the Eastern Mediterranean to the Southeastern Anatolia.

Specific cities like Kütahya, Bolu, Erzurum, and even parts of Muğla and Aydın are also forecast to experience local downpours. Meanwhile, areas like the Eastern Black Sea (except Giresun), Erzincan, Ardahan, and northern Erzurum are bracing for potentially heavy rainfall.

Severe Weather Alerts Issued

MGM has issued multiple warnings. Heavy rain is likely in parts of the Black Sea region and southeastern provinces like Gaziantep and Kilis. Gusty winds up to 60 km/h are expected in southwestern Marmara and northern Aegean coasts, while dust storms could impact parts of Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia.

Let’s take a closer look at how three key destinations—Istanbul, Muğla, and Antalya—are expected to fare under these weather conditions.

Istanbul Weather: Breezy and Bright with Some Clouds

Istanbul is set for a relatively calm day compared to much of the country. Skies will be partly cloudy with some sunshine peeking through. Temperatures will hover around 33°C, and while no major rain is expected, residents should stay aware of strong northern winds especially in southern parts of the Marmara region. Overall, it’s a good day to be out—but a hat and sunglasses wouldn’t hurt.

Muğla Weather: Storms Possible Inland, Beaches Stay Clear

In Muğla, the situation is more mixed. While coastal areas like Bodrum and Marmaris are expected to remain mostly dry and hot, the inland districts may see scattered thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon. Temperatures will rise to the upper 30s, so humidity and heat will be factors even if it rains. Keep an umbrella handy if you’re heading inland, but beach plans look mostly safe.

Antalya Weather: Showers in the Mountains, Sunshine by the Sea

Antalya is facing a dual forecast today. While the city center and coastal areas will enjoy clearer skies later in the day, the mountainous interior is expected to experience brief but intense afternoon storms. Temperatures will stay around 32°C, with humid conditions prevailing. The morning may start cloudy, but the sun should make a return by late afternoon.

In Summary

While Istanbul enjoys mild, breezy weather, Muğla and Antalya should keep an eye on the skies—particularly in their interior regions. The rest of the country is bracing for a very wet and stormy day, with safety warnings in effect due to strong winds, flash flood potential, and dusty air.
