Heavy Rain Turns Fethiye’s Hisarönü into a Lake as Tourists Take to the Water

Heavy rain that intensified during the day caused flooding and large pools of water in parts of Fethiye on Thursday, September 17. In Hisarönü, the roads were transformed into what looked like lakes, while some foreign tourists in the area were seen swimming in the floodwater.

The unusual scenes were captured on mobile phones by people nearby and quickly attracted attention.

Meteorological Warning Had Been Issued

The Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM) had warned that Muğla could experience locally heavy showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, September 17. According to the warning, the rain was expected to begin in the morning and continue throughout the day.

The warning also highlighted the possibility of flooding, waterlogging, lightning, strong winds during the rain, localised hail and disruptions to transport.
