The hunger threshold in Turkey has climbed once again, edging closer to 28,000 lira. According to the latest report from TÜRK-İŞ, the monthly food expenditure required for a family of four living in Ankara to maintain a healthy and balanced diet rose from 27,111 lira to 27,970 lira in September 2025.
Poverty Line and Living Costs
TÜRK-İŞ also revealed broader figures that reflect the rising cost of living. The poverty line, which includes essential expenses such as food, clothing, housing (rent, electricity, water, heating), transportation, education, and healthcare, reached “91,109 lira”.
For a single worker, the minimum monthly cost of living rose to 36,304 lira, underlining the pressure of inflation on individual households as well as families.
Monthly and Annual Changes
The increase in the minimum food expenditure for a family of four compared to the previous month was 3.17 percent. Over the past 12 months, the hunger threshold has risen by 41.05 percent, while the annual average increase stood at 40.95 percent. For the first nine months of 2025 alone, the cumulative rise has already reached 32.67 percent.
