Following the public outcry sparked by the “newborn gang” (Yeni Doğan Çetesi) investigation, the number of hospitals whose licenses have been revoked has risen to nine.

The investigation revealed that certain individuals working at Istanbul’s 112 Emergency Call Center collaborated with private hospitals to direct emergency newborn patients to their neonatal units for personal financial gain. This illegal operation is also blamed for the deaths of several infants. In response to public backlash, the licenses of the nine hospitals mentioned in the indictment have been revoked.

The investigation, launched by the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office on May 21, 2023, and completed on October 16, 2023, has resulted in the cancellation of these hospitals’ licenses:

• Private TRG Hospitalist Hospital

• Private Bağcılar Medilife Hospital

• Private Beylikdüzü Medilife Hospital
