A top executive of the Turkish Hoteliers’ Association (TÜROB), reported that Istanbul had surpassed all European destinations in terms of occupancy and average per-room income in May and for the 5-month period.
President of the Turkish Hoteliers’ Association made statements about Istanbul’s tourism data at the June meeting of TÜROB. She noted that hotel occupancy rates in Istanbul for May 2022, were 78.4 percent, and when looking at May 2019, this rate was 58.2 percent. She went on to say“When we take May alone, we see an incredible success in Istanbul. We compare the figures for the year 2022 with 2019 only. The years 2020 and 2021 are actually two years that we completely ignore for the tourism sector. When we look at the first 5 months of this year, occupancy rates in Istanbul were 66.8 percent, and in the first 5 months of 2019, this rate was 69 percent. So when we look at the first 5 months, we are behind 2019, but when we look at May alone, we are somewhere much higher than 2019. In fact, this uptrend is also continuing.”
COST OF A ROOM IN ISTANBUL IS 127.4 EUROS PER DAY
The same executive said that room prices were the most pleasing development, adding: “The rise in our room revenues has been visibly monitored by Europe as well. Our room price, which is sold daily in Istanbul, was 127.4 euros in May 2022. This figure was 81.7 euros in 2019. Currently, Istanbul is doing quite well at average room rates. When we look at the revenue per room from the total number of rooms, it was 99.8 euros in May 2022. This figure was 42.5 euros in 2019.”
