The Netherlands has decided to ban the adoption of Scottish Fold and Sphynx cats. Additionally, these breeds will not be allowed to participate in cat competitions and exhibitions. The law will come into effect on January 1, 2026.
Health Issues of the Breeds:
- The Scottish Fold breed, known for its folded ears, suffers from genetic mutations that make them more prone to joint and cartilage problems. These cats often experience pain due to cartilage growth in their ears, legs, and tails.
- The Sphynx breed, which is hairless, is more susceptible to diseases and has less sensory feedback from its environment due to the absence of fur and whiskers. They are also prone to skin issues and are particularly sensitive to cold temperatures.
