A new regulation affecting millions of credit and debit card users has come into effect today. According to the letter sent by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) to banks in April, the limits for contactless card payments will be increased.
With the new decision, the contactless payment limit will be increased by 100%. The limit for contactless card payments without a PIN will be raised from 750 TL to 1500 TL starting today. Thus, the limit for contactless payments, which allow transactions through cards and mobile devices without any physical contact, has been updated for the first time in two years.
In 2020, due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, contactless payment methods gained prominence, and the demand for secure payment methods increased due to consumers’ hygiene concerns.
