U.S. Secretary Kerry and Turkish FM Davutoğlu discuss Syria

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoğlu discussed the situations in Iraq and Syria on telephone on March 30th. The two ministers reviewed topics such as measures to be taken regarding the Syrian government’s use of Scud missiles against rebel forces in populated areas and the possible use of chemical weapons in President Bashar al-Assad’s arsenal. 

 Turkey-Iran gold-for-gas hits $120 million in a month

In February, Turkey’s total gold exports increased from $466 million to $551.6 million with a 18 percent increase. Its gold export to Iran reached around $120 million in the same period. This shows that the trade of gold for natural gas between 2 countries has resumed in spite of U.S. pressure on Turkey.

Çağlayan says Turkish – South Korean FTA to begin in May

It was announced by Turkish Economy Minister Çağlayan that FTA between South Korea and Turkey is scheduled to enter into force on May 1. The agreement is reported to consist of a “framework convention,” and a “merchandise trade convention.”  Turkish Minister also said the negotiations on service trade and investments between the two countries were scheduled to be started within a year after the merchandise trade convention entered into force.

Minister of Agriculture says Turkish companies can export milk products to EU

Speaking at a meeting Mehdi Eker (Turkey’s Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock) said that EU standards on milk and milk products were met by Turkey enabling local companies to export mil and milk products to Europe. It was revealed by the Minister that following a 7-year-long process, they would be able to export milk and milk products to EU.

Turkish-type-boron cement plant that will be built in Kutahya

A Turkish-type-boron cement plant will be built in Kutahya, western province of Turkey in summer, which will be a first in the world.  It is known that Emet, a district of Kutahya is known to have the biggest most boron reserves in the world. The estimated quantity to be produced is 1,155.000 tons of portland cement per year.

It is reported that Turkey has been growing faster than Eurozone’s major economies

Turkish economy grew 2.2 percent in 2012 where the Euro zone economy was expected to grow 0.6 percent and EU was expected to shrink 0,3 percent. Turkey would rank second with its economic growth rate following Estonia (3.2%) in the Euro zone if it had joined the single currency. On the other hand,  Turkey loses speed in growth following 9.2 and 8.8 percent growth rates in 2010 and 2011 respectively. Turkish economy grew 3.3 percent in the first quarter, 2,9 percent in the second quarter, 1,6 percent in the third quarter and 1,4 percent in the final quarter of 2012.
