CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, during a speech at his party’s Bylaw Congress, called for early elections, stating that public expectations for early elections in Turkey have surpassed 50%.
Özel emphasized that his party had been successful in the March 31 elections and that a large segment of society is now demanding early elections. He accused the AK Party of trying to create polarization and tension by failing to field mayoral candidates.
He noted that they had not previously called for early elections, but worsening economic conditions would make elections inevitable. The CHP leader highlighted that more than half of the public wants early elections according to recent polls.
Özel suggested that November 2025 could be a turning point for early elections, stressing that the public cannot continue under the current administration and that the CHP is ready for elections.
