CHP (Republican People’s Party) leader Özgür Özel shared details about the party’s presidential candidate primary election. He said, “We invited 1,753,000 members for the primary, and 1,653,000 of our members voted. The votes cast at Solidarity Ballots totaled 13,211,000.”
The primary election to select the CHP’s presidential candidate took place in 81 provinces and 973 districts, with a total of 11,920 ballot boxes set up. Of these, 5,960 were for party members and 5,960 were for “Solidarity Ballots.” Voting began at 8:00 AM.
Voting Time Extended
Due to high participation, CHP Secretary-General Selin Sayek Böke announced that the voting time, originally set to end at 5:00 PM, was extended until 7:00 PM.
Total Votes So Far
As of 7:00 PM, Özgür Özel announced that more than 14,850,000 votes had been cast. He clarified, “We invited 1,753,000 members for the primary, and 1,653,000 of our members voted. The total votes cast at the Solidarity Ballots amounted to 13,211,000.”
Initially, only party members were supposed to vote in the primary. However, following the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on the morning of March 19, the decision was changed.
