In Muğla, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes have been initiated for six marble quarry projects in the new-year. These projects are located in significant natural areas and forest lands in the Fethiye, Yatağan, and Menteşe districts, which constitute 68% of the total area covered by forests in Muğla.
‘LICENSE UNTIL 2023’
For the Marble Quarry Project using the Wet Diamond Cutting Method in Çukuröz Village, affiliated with Yatağan, the EIA process was initiated on January 4th. The project has been granted a 2-B Group Operating License by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, General Directorate of Mining and Petroleum Affairs, valid from February 25, 2022, to February 25, 2032. The EIA file emphasizes that the entire activity area of 22.61 and 19.54 hectares is forest land and that operations cannot begin without obtaining forest permits.
FOREST LANDS IN MENTEŞE
On January 4th, the EIA process was initiated for the Marble Quarry project planned in İkizce Village, affiliated with Menteşe, in two separate areas. The project area is designated as ‘Forest Area.’ In the districts of Yatağan, Kozağaç, and Köklük Villages, as well as Belenbaşı and Karaaltı Locations, the Marble Quarry Capacity Increase project, planned in a 167.89-hectare area, also began the EIA process on January 5th. According to the information in the EIA file, the project area is located within the boundaries of the forest and significant natural area in the 1/100,000 Scale Environmental Planning Scheme for the Aydın-Muğla-Denizli Planning Region.
‘NO ACTIVITY WITHOUT PERMISSION’ WARNING
In Karadere Village, affiliated with Fethiye district, the EIA process started on January 5th. The entire 24.34-hectare activity area is again located in forest land. The EIA file states that no activity can commence without obtaining forest permits.
