As Turkey continues its fight against the fires that started on July 28 and is still prevailing in many regions, the “Help Turkey” campaign launched on social media has also had great impact. It is reported on the other hand, Ankara Public Prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation for said campaign.
The campaign, in which about 2.7 million tweets were posted, received support from a large number of users, including famous names, while there were also those who opposed the campaign.
In the meantime, Ankara Public Prosecutor’s office launched an investigation for the campaign and shared realized in regards on social media.
The statement from the Ankara Cmuhuriyet Attorney General’s Office is as follows:
“Since forest fires started on 28.07.2021 it has been observed that some people and groups have been sharing messages via some bot accounts on social media (mainly), creating anxiety, fear and panic, thus trying to humiliate the Republic of Turkey and the government. In this respect, an official investigation has been launched by the Ankara prosecutor general’s office regarding the shares that were found to contain criminal elements.”
