Tensions between Turkey and the Greek Administration of Southern Cyprus (to include Greece as well) in the Eastern Mediterranean, continue.
The Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus responded to Turkey’s objection to granting of a natural gas exploration license to the ExxonMobil-Qatar Petroleum Partnership and said “It is our sovereign territory. Hydrocarbon research will be continued with determination.”
The Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus has granted Exxon Mobil and Qatar Petroleum exploration licenses in the Mediterranean Sea, causing new tension between the two countries. The Greek Cypriot Administration claimed that Turkey had violated the continental shelf of Cyprus, suggesting that it was within its sovereign rights.
Turkey, on the other hand, accused the Greek Administration of Southern Cyprus of violating Turkey’s continental shelf by issuing licenses to two companies and said that they would not allow unauthorized searches in its jurisdiction.
