Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, there has been a significant decrease in the foreign resident population in Antalya, with a decrease of 40,000 in the past year alone due to soaring rental and housing prices. Russians have turned to Dubai and Serbia.
After the war between Russia and Ukraine, the number of foreign residents in Antalya, which had seen intense migration from these two countries, decreased by 40,000 in the last year. Non-extension of residence permits, refusal to grant permits to new arrivals, and high increases in housing and rental prices are causing intense migration from Antalya to Dubai and Serbia. Housing prices and rents have also started to decrease by around 15-25 percent.
RENTS SOARED AFTER THE WAR
Antalya, especially preferred by citizens of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, including Russians and Ukrainians, hosts many Russian and Ukrainian residents for holiday purposes. After the Russia-Ukraine war began in February 2022, there was intense migration from both countries.
The resident foreign population in Antalya, which was 94,000 in 2020, rose to 136,946 in 2021 and 172,487 in 2022. Especially due to the doubling of the foreign population in two years following migration from Russia and Ukraine, housing and rental prices in Antalya increased astronomically.
