OpenAI is aiming to increase its revenue with this new feature. There had been speculation before that users of the free version of ChatGPT might start seeing ads, but it seems another potential revenue stream is emerging: shopping!
ChatGPT now displays product recommendations during searches. This feature allows the company to earn additional income by suggesting products to users.
The feature enables ChatGPT to not only recommend products, but also show price comparisons, reviews, and product ratings based on the searches.
Currently, when users want to purchase something, they are redirected to the product’s website by clicking a link. However, this may change soon as OpenAI is known to have been in talks with Shopify. If these discussions lead to a partnership, it could allow users to purchase directly within ChatGPT in the future.
