The volume of the camping caravan sector, which is the new favorite of the holidaymakers with the pandemic, has exceeded US dollars 300 million. The volume of the sector increases to 500 million dollars with the caravan parking lots and camping areas opened one after the other.

The camping, caravan and extreme sports sector is expected to close this year with over $ 600 million. While the number of producers in the sector has increased 5 times in the last 2 years, exports, especially to European countries, has also multiplied by 3.

CARAVAN SALES INCREASE BY 5 FOLD

While it is estimated that there are around 220 thousand caravans and motorhomes with licenses/license plates in Turkey as of 2021, this figure is around 15 million in the world. There was a sales boom in caravans in 2021. Manufacturers were not able to keep up with the 400 percent increase in caravan sales. While a motorhome is produced in 65 days, the production of towing caravans has been reduced to 25 days. In 2020, 3 thousand caravans and motorhomes were manufactured, while in 2021, this figure increased by 10 times. Due to the excessive demand at the moment, a caravan is delivered in 1 year at the earliest.

COST TO CONVERT INTO MOTORHOME IS 35 THOUSAND EUROS

A professional in the sector gave information about prices and said that the cost of buying a zero vehicle and having it converted in a caravan is 30-35 thousand euros. He also noted following: “The cost of a zero caravan is 100 thousand euros. Tiny houses also start from 50 thousand euros and go up to 250 thousand euros.”

He added that the number of companies had increased in the sector both on the rental and industrial side. He noted following as well; “Caravan camping areas are being created due to this development. Especially in the regions where there are natural beauties, an infrastructure building process has started. Caravan routes and camping areas are preferred both in terms of safety and because they have started to become a family holiday choice now, due to the need for shopping opportunities and, of course, technological supports. For example, a number of routes will be created starting in the Black Sea and extending to Eastern Anatolia and the Southeast or the Mediterranean.”
