Kurşunlu Han Hotel, located at Aktarlar Bazaar in the city center of Kastamonu, whose cultural assets have managed to survive since the Candaroğulları and Ottoman periods, has been operating for 600 years.
Kurşunlu Han, known as the “longest living Hotel” in Europe and Turkey, was built between 1443 and 1461 by Kemalettin Ismail Bey, the last ruler of the Candaroğulları Principality and uncle of Fatih Sultan Mehmet (the conqueror of Istanbul)
It was the largest commercial center of Kastamonu at the time of its construction and has not lost its popularity as the center of Kastamonu trade for centuries.
However, Kurşunlu Han, which could not resist over time, was transferred to foundations. It was used as a warehouse when it was left unserviced for a long time.
As a result of the initiatives of the Kastamonu Regional Directorate of Foundations, Kurşunlu Han started to come to life again. It was tendered based on BOT basis the with a cost of USD 3.5 million and was reopened in 2008.
General Manager of the hotel says “Kastamonu has a very important tourism potential, there are more than 200 historical monuments that have existed in the city for centuries, and there are also rich artifacts in terms of faith tourism.”
He also says they still serve tourism with a capacity of 26 rooms and 52 beds in Kurşunlu Han and they have preserved historical traits of the place.
He also notes following; “According to the research and reviews conducted by ourselves, we have the title of the ‘Longest Living Hotel’ in Europe and Turkey, which was built 600 years ago.”
