The money spent on ‘Public Coffee Houses’ approached 50 million liras

According to a report in media, the money spent so far on President Tayyip Erdoğan’s election promise many Millet Kıraathanes (Public Coffee Houses) has reached TL 47 million 83 thousand.

On June 7, 2018, Erdogan had said at a rally in Hatay, as an election promise, “We will establish “people’s coffee houses” in our provinces. There will be books and newspapers in them and coffee and tea will be for free.”

According to a report in media, the total contract price of 14 tenders for said venues was recorded as TL 47 million 83 thousand 891.

Million-dollar tenders

In five years to cover 2018 and 2022, fourteen different tenders were held by local governments for these places. The “Millet Kıraathanesi which was built by Manisa Şehzadeler Municipality together with the youth center, stood out in terms of its cost. Within the scope of the tender conducted by Şehzadeler Municipality Science Affairs Directorate on January 10, a contract of 13 million 590 thousand TL was signed.

On the other hand, Ankara Mamak Municipality spent 15 million 474 thousand TL on the tender titled “Millet Kıraathanesi” in Various Neighborhoods”.
