Tariff Rates to Range Between 10 and 41 Percent for Various Countries
According to the executive order, the new tariff rates for different countries will range from 10 to 41 percent. Turkey is among the countries subject to a 15 percent customs duty under the revised schedule.
White House Cites Effort to Reduce Trade Deficits
In a statement from the White House, the decision was framed as part of a broader strategy to reduce the United States’ growing annual goods trade deficit. The revised tariff rates are designed to reflect the principle of reciprocity and apply more pressure on countries that do not maintain balanced trade relationships with the US.
Some Countries Begin Negotiations, Others Remain Unresponsive
The statement also noted that since Trump’s initial announcement on April 2 regarding reciprocal tariffs, some countries have agreed to or are close to agreeing on meaningful trade and security deals with the United States. Others have made offers through negotiations, while some have yet to enter into any discussions.
Countries Not Listed Will Face a Standard 10 Percent Tariff
The executive order specifies which countries will be subject to elevated tariffs and at what rates. Countries not explicitly listed will continue to face the standard 10 percent customs duty.
