Turkey breaks new record in exports in first quarter of 2021

According to Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) data, Turkey’s exports increased to $ 18 billion 985 million 472 thousand last month corresponding to a growth of 42.2 percent compared to the same period of 2020. On the other hand exports in the first quarter of the year went up to $ 50 billion 23 million 412 thousand with an increase of 17.3 percent.

Turkey’s agricultural exports increased by 10.1 percent in the first 3 months compared to the same period last year and went up to $ 6 billion 621 million 84 thousand. January-March 2021 was recorded as the highest first quarter export in history, looking at the foreign sales of the agricultural sector in the first quarters.

In the first quarter of the year, Turkey’s industrial exports increased by 15.6 percent to 37 billion 218 million 155 thousand dollars, and mining exports rose by 29.9 percent to 1 billion 215 million 414 thousand dollars. Turkey’s agricultural exports accounted for 14.7 percent of total exports in the first quarter of the year.

MOST EXPORT GROWTH IN ORNAMENTAL PLANTS AND PRODUCTS

Products such as cereals, pulses, oil seeds and products, fresh fruits and vegetables, fruit and vegetable products, products with dried fruits and hazelnut products, ornamental plants and their products, seafood and animal products, furniture, paper and forestry products in the agricultural group enjoyed increase in exports while foreign sales recorded a decline in olives and olive oil, and tobacco industries.

The sector that increased exports in agriculture the most in the first quarter was ornamental plants and products with 26.2 percent. Ornamental plants and products, 21.7 percent of age fruits and vegetables, 14.5 percent of furniture, paper and forest products, 12.3 percent of aquaculture and animal products, 11.7 percent of cereals, pulses, oilseeds and products followed.

In the first 3 months of the year, foreign sales of the olive and olive oil sector decreased by 12.5 percent and exports of the tobacco sector by 27.9 percent.
