At the World Climate Summit held in Baku, Azerbaijan, it was announced that Turkey, along with five other countries, signed the “Declaration to Triple Nuclear Energy.” During the World Leaders Climate Summit, President Tayyip Erdoğan emphasized, “For our 2053 net zero emission targets, our primary priorities are renewable energy, energy efficiency, and nuclear energy.”
He stated: “Our installed wind and solar energy capacity, currently at 31,000 megawatts, will be increased to 120,000 megawatts by 2035. For nuclear energy, we aim to reach a capacity of 20,000 megawatts by 2050.”
According to a statement by the World Nuclear Association, the countries participating in the goal to triple global nuclear energy capacity by 2050 include Turkey and several others. Last year, at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) led by the United Arab Emirates (UAE), 25 countries, including the United States, signed the “Declaration to Triple Nuclear Energy” to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
