Turkey’s automotive market continues to show impressive resilience and growth. According to the latest data from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles soared in July 2025, exceeding 107,000 units—a 14.55% increase compared to the same month last year.
July Momentum Surpasses Expectations
Despite concerns around potential tax regulation changes (ÖTV), the market kept its momentum strong in July. With 107,718 vehicles sold, the industry comfortably crossed the 100,000 mark. Breaking it down, passenger car sales rose by 14.71% year-on-year, reaching 84,195 units. Light commercial vehicles followed with a 13.96% increase, totaling 23,523 units.
When compared to the average July sales over the past decade, this year’s figures show a stunning leap. The total market was up by nearly 56%, with passenger car sales increasing 56.7% and light commercial vehicles 53.1%.
Over 715,000 Vehicles Sold in 7 Months
Zooming out, the January–July period of 2025 shows cumulative growth as well. Total vehicle sales reached 715,695 units—6.5% higher than the same period in 2024. Of this, 572,198 were passenger cars and 143,497 were light commercial vehicles, with year-on-year increases of 6.68% and 5.77% respectively.
Electric Vehicles Are the Rising Star
One of the most striking trends is the continued surge in electric vehicle (EV) sales. While petrol-powered cars still hold the top spot with 46.5% market share, hybrids are catching up fast at 26.8%. EVs, however, made the biggest splash—grabbing an 18.1% share with 103,310 units sold so far this year.
Interestingly, the highest growth was seen in the power output categories. EVs under 160 kW saw sales more than double, rising by 108.6%. High-performance models above 160 kW? Their sales exploded by 233.2%.
SUVs Continue Their Market Domination
When it comes to body types, SUVs continue to reign supreme. These versatile models accounted for 62.6% of all passenger car sales, translating to over 357,000 units. Sedans followed with 22.2%, while hatchbacks claimed 14.4% of the market.
C-Segment Leads the Way
Smaller, more tax-efficient vehicles remain at the heart of Turkey’s market structure. A, B, and C segment vehicles made up 81.5% of total car sales. Within that, C-segment cars stood out with a commanding 55.6% market share—amounting to more than 318,000 units. B-segment cars came next with 25.4%.
Looking Ahead
With strong summer performance, surging demand for EVs, and growing interest in SUVs and compact models, the Turkish auto market appears poised for continued growth. As industry players navigate policy changes and shifting consumer preferences, the momentum from July could set the tone for the rest of the year.
