The actions taken by the new Labour Party government led by Keir Starmer in the UK since July, within the scope of Middle East policy, are seen as the first signs of distancing from its ally, the US.
It is claimed that the Starmer government in the UK will withdraw its appeal against the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by the weekend.
According to an article published in The New York Times (NYT) on Thursday, two officials who wished to remain anonymous indicated that the Starmer government would comply with the ruling if the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu.
The Conservatives, led by former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, had appealed against the request for Netanyahu’s arrest on June 10, claiming that the international court based in The Hague has no jurisdiction over Israeli citizens.
