In the midst of escalating tensions in the region, US Central Command Commander Michael Erik Kurilla has begun his visit to the Middle East. According to a report published by the US-based news site Axios on Sunday, Iran is expected to launch an attack on Israel on Monday, August 5th, following the assassinations of Hezbollah military chief Fuad Shukr and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
The report, based on the views of three American and Israeli officials, indicated that Iran’s possible retaliation could be similar to the attack on Israel on April 13th but on a larger scale. It was also suggested that the attack might include Hezbollah.
Hamas leader Haniyeh was assassinated on Wednesday in Tehran, Iran’s capital, while Hezbollah’s senior commander Shukr was assassinated on Tuesday in Beirut, Lebanon’s capital.
Following these consecutive assassinations, tensions in the Middle East have further escalated. Iran has promised to respond to the assassination in Tehran, while Israel has vowed to kill the leaders who “lit the fuse of war” in retaliation for the Hamas militants’ attack on October 7th.
