A US citizen who wrote bad comments about a hotel in Thailand has been arrested. The tourist who agreed with the hotel is expected to be released in exchange for an apology. Wesley Barnes who wrote bad comments about a hotel in Thailand, one of the favorite holiday destinations, got into real trouble. The tourist (said to be a US citizen) had accused the Sea View Resort Hotel of practicing “modern slavery.”
He made comments on several different occasions which caused the local authority to arrest him. The tourist who was arrested under the country’s defamation law, reached a settlement with Thai tourism authorities. Barnes was asked to remove comments he made on the internet and send a detailed text to the outside press (as reported by NTV)
BARNES was also forced to apologize to both the hotel and the Thai tourism authorities. “The hotel pardoned me and withdrew the charges” was also inserted in the text shared by Barnes. In a statement, the hotel said the charges would be withdrawn if the US tourist met all the conditions under the agreement. Had Wesley Barnes been found guilty, he would have faced up to two years in prison.
