Today we celebrate the International Nurses Day. On this occasion we would like to commemorate Florence Nightingale, as the founder of modern nursing as well.
Florence Nightingale is known as the founder of modern nursing.
Her story begins with her experiences during her stay (and work) in Turkey at the time of the Crimean War. Witnessing the appalling health conditions of British soldiers, Florence bravely intervened to improve the conditions in hospitals.
RENOWNED FOR PIONEERING WORK IN HYGIENE AND PATIENT CARE
Florence is renowned for her pioneering work in cleanliness, hygiene, and patient care. After her successes in the Crimean War, she returned to England as a national hero. She campaigned for healthcare reforms, conducted statistical analyses, and worked to improve military health services.
SHE CONTRIBUTED TO ESTABLISHMENT OF NURSING SCHOOLS AND MADE DONATIONS
She led the establishment of nursing schools and made donations to numerous hospitals. Florence elevated the respectability of the nursing profession and emphasized the importance of nursing education.
However, due to health issues, she spent her later years bedridden. Yet, her illness did not halt her activism; she continued her work even from her bed.
SHE DEMONSTRATED WOMEN COULD EXCEL IN ANY FIELD
Florence Nightingale is remembered as a trailblazer who demonstrated that women can excel in any field. She is honored on International Nurses Day, celebrated annually on May 12th.
