A study conducted in the UK revealed that holiday expenditures will be exempt from Britons’ cuts in ‘non-essential spending’.
According to the latest Deloitte Consumer Tracker research, Britons will not be cutting back on holidays while saving on non-essential spending. However, despite this, Britons will continue to focus on price-quality.
They will be cutting back on 9 out of 11 entertainment categories
“Our data indicates that Britons will be cutting back on 9 out of 11 entertainment categories in the first quarter of 2024, but short and long-distance holidays will be exempt from this.” The report noted that despite the cost increase, consumers continued to prioritize holidays.
According to the research, 57 percent of those planning to spend their holiday abroad are likely to purchase an ‘all-inclusive’ holiday. The same research found that 60 percent of Britons will be holidaying domestically in 2024.
Budget-friendly searches will increase
“As ‘revenge travel’ following the pandemic diminishes, people will increasingly opt for holidays closer to home, reduce spending, shorten holiday durations, search for cheaper flights, and opt for holidays in the off-peak seasons,” the report said. It stated that the travel, accommodation, and entertainment sectors, barring unforeseen major events, are expected to transition to a more normal performance period over the next 12 months.
Improvement expected in the second half of the year
The report pointed out that due to rising interest rates, geopolitical uncertainties, and the general election, Britons will be cautious in the first half of 2024. “However, in the second half of 2024, cuts in the national insurance system, increases in real incomes resulting in higher household spending, and improved conditions may lead to increased spending in categories considered ‘non-essential’,” it said.
